Pick of the Bunch Recount Week 2 T3

A hands down win for Abby M today...well done!


Swoosh, crackle went my skies as I zoomed down the hill.  It was Sunday morning and it was freezing.  "At least I'm wrapped up in warm clothes," I said softy to myself.  A minute later I clipped my skies on tightly and made my way to the top but just then I noticed that my mum was watching me.  I suddenly exchanged glances but I couldn't help thinking that my mum must of been expecting me to ski down the hill.  I also couldn't help noticing my low confidence level but I knew what had to be done so I took off.  Zooming down the hill I was very proud of myself and I could tell my mum was too!

Pick of the Bunch Recount Week 9

We've had a couple of weeks off writing recounts as we've been busy learning about report writing.  We wrote some recounts today and Olivia was the hands-down winner (I think she got the top vote from everyone in the class!)


"I don't want to get out of bed," I said.  I looked at my ipod to the time was 4:30am.  I said to myself, "no way am I getting up.  My dad pulled my leg and before I knew it I was on my floor.  I stood up and got back in bed.  My dad had another go but Mr Woofles shot up under the covers like a rocket and growled at dad like a wolf.  Mr Woofles HATES getting up early! Finally dad went and I got up.  My dad started up the car and he lifted my kart in to the boot.  I grabbed the hair straighteners and straightened my hair.  It was about time I should be leaving so I got dressed and did everything.  Then I was gone.

I was so so proud of Noah's writing today.  He wrote heaps but had clear finger spaces, sentences starting with capital letters, full stops in the right place and even a bit of humour in his writing.  All of this independently too.  Best writing all year Noah, think we'll be moving your picture on the writing wall if you keep this up! Here's my Pick of the Bunch recount for this week by Noah.
On Saturday my puppy was jumping on my leg.  I did not know why? I gave her food but it didn't work.  So I gave her water but she didn't stop. So I let her play with Arthur but she would not stop.  So I let her be with mum but she did not stop.  So I let her go toilet.  "Finally she's stopped," I said.

This weeks winner was Leah, with her great recount about Flipperball! She didn't quite finish her writing but I know she would have added in that the All Blacks were training at the Millenium and some even cheered when the game was being played! Super cool!


Splash! I jumped in.  My coach told me I was on defence first half and on the second half I was in goal.  We finallt started.  I swam up to get the ball.  Gemma got it and she passed the ball to me.  I swam with the ball and had a try to shoot the goal.  Everyone was saying 'Go Leah'.  I tried again.  Ding, ding.  It was half time.

Ummm....I hummed in the car.  "When are we going to get there?" I shouted.
"10 minutes," he said.  When I counted 10 minutes and turned around I couldn't shut my eyes and mouth. I saw a beach, as beautiful as a rose and the waves trying to say hello to me.  First we went to the hotel room and I saw everything nice and tidy.  We watched TV but I just wondered why there was 4 beds but there were 5 of us.  Before I could tell my mum I realised the couch was a bed.  We opened it and we got the blanket out and we watched a movie eating frujus.  Then we went to bed.  I gently closed my eyes and suddenly ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! A loud alarm rang and rang.  We were all surprised so we got out clothes and ran out.  We saw a lot of people outside and the alarm was ringing and....oho oho oho I just saw three fire engines coming this way.  I saw them getting the hose ready when the alarm came to a stop.  They went away.

"Oh," I yawned as I got out of bed.  Then I went zooming down the stairs.  I went to watch tv then when everybody got downstairs we had breakfast.  I ate as fast as a cheetah then we went to our cousins house. We played tennis and we went to the park.  First I went on the slide, it was massive like the Skytower.  When I got up I went down, it was very fast.  I felt as if I was in a rocket.  After that I went on the spiderweb.  It was big.  When I reached the top I felt like I was King of the World! I was wondering how to get down but then I figured it out.

On Sunday I went to Rosebank Road to do go-karting.  We had to get up at seven o'clock, it was tiring.  My dad came in to my room and checked I had all of my stuff again then he took my bag and put it in the car.  I got up and walked in to the lounge.  Dad handed me a plate of scrambled eggs with bacon on the side.  "Eat up," he said.  Mr Woofles jumped on my lap and took some of my bacon! He ran out the door with the bacon.  "Mr Woofles," I said.  I ran out to get him.  Then we had to go.  My dad lifted my mum out of bed and put her in the car.  Zoom, we were gone.  When we got there dad lifted out the kart.  It was a good day and on the way back I got McDonalds.

Today we looked at Abby's recount from last week and discussed what made it such a great read.  We noticed she used similes, an interesting first sentence and great verbs and adjectives.  Lots of people this week tried using something more interesting than 'In the weekend...' to start their recount!! This weeks hands down winner was Marina.  Well done!


Mmmmm I moaned because my brother woke me up.  I went in to the kitchen.  I saw my mum making me breakfast.  My mum was making me some toast.  I watched some tv and then I started to make a necklace for my mum out of her favourite colours.  Mum loved it, she thought it was so sweet of me to do that.  After I went in to the pool with my mum, dad and my brother.

Each Monday in Term 1 Room 15 write recounts about the weekend.  Today we discussed all the things needed to make a recount interesting to read.  Five students read their stories to the class and Abby was voted the winner! Here's her great recount:


Mmmm I moaned as I slowly got out of bed.  I rubbed my eyes, it was Saturday morning and I seriously didn't want to get out of bed! Later in the day my heart was beating excitedly because I was going to a party at my mums friends new house.  At last when I got there I nervously stared up at the house as I walked in.  It was as noisy as an elephant having a fit.  I walked upstairs and there were loads of people but in the corner of my eye I saw a big table with lots of plates and food so I started eating.  Then I saw my brother with chips so I ran to the lounge and watched the boys play a video game while eating chips.  Finally I watched a movie.
